Great fight Rocco. You may not have won the tournament but you have won the admiration of golfers around the world for your courage and dignity. Many congratulations.
Conrats Rocco on making Western PA proud!!!
Congratulations from Paris, France. Fairplay, humour, nice golf, fighting and positive spirit… Everything was fine from here, in France.
One side of the coin, the other side…
Great performance !
Rocco your amazing and I feel you have many good years of golf ahead of you. I watched the event in Ireland and you handled everything with real class. I will be following your career from now on . You are now a household name worldwide. You have shown that 45 is the new 35 and that perservence pays. I hope you stay fit and reap the rewards you deserve after your performance in the 2008 US Open.
Althought Tiger officially won, Rocco is far from being a loser. So often, we forgetr who came in second, no chance on this one. This battle will be remembered for a long time
I wanted to share this with everyone. This is a television commentary that aired lastt night- I think it says everything that makes Rocco special.

Classic Rocco. Tiger knew he was in a match and you streched him past his comfort zone. Good Luck in the near future, well deserved. Good Playing old man!
Rocco,
I want to congratulate you on one of the greatest performances I’ve ever witnessed in sports. At Torrey Pines, you demonstrated that you’re among sport’s toughest competitors and with all-too-rare exception, you exude enviable chivalry. You’ve done what no other golfer has been able to do: You instilled fear in arguably the best golfer in history and never backed down. You had Tiger on the ropes and but for a series of miraculous turns of the ball, you would be the champion. Despite this fate, you’re a champion in the hearts of millions of sports fans. Your jovial spirit and palpable integrity made it easy to root for you. Golf enthusiasts were behind you in near unanimity. You were truly “our” man at Torrey Pines. You’ve inspired countless people to go beyond their comfort zones and reach for that which is seemingly unattainable. While the hands of fate did not grace you with the trophy, your intrepid performance is seered in our memories. Some disappointment is understandable, but my message to you is to remain positive and reflect on the gallantry of the battle you fought so heroically. Golf is a game of split-second forces and often uncontrollable turns. You competed valiantly on one of the world’s largest stages and against sport’s most formidable competitor. You fought back when nearly all others would have wilted. In the coming days, I hope you stand proud and focus on the sheer delight you brought millions of people. In the game of life, we want people like you in our corner. Golf fans undoubtedly want to see more of your championship form at future events (and hopefully very soon). Rest assured that more triumphs are awaiting you. Continue to give ‘em hell this season, Rocco, and I’m confident we’ll see you at Valhalla.
Rocco,
Watching your gallant demeanor in last week’s game has changed the way I think about golf. Thanks for being an inspiration to me!
Rocco,
Most people attribute their recent increased interest in golf to the coming of El Tigre. I, however, attribute my interest to the coming of Rocco Mediate at the 2008 US Open. Never have I seen an athlete compete with such dignity and class in any sporting event, let alone one that you did not come out victorious.
I have never been more proud of someone taking 2nd place in a competition than your performance at Torrey Pines. I am not one who normally skips work to watch sports, but I am so pleased that I did to watch the final playoff. You showed not only all of America, but also the entire world that you can not only compete but can beat the best in the world on a given day. Although you weren’t able to beat Tiger that day, you did succeed in winning over the hearts of the world.
I know that you will bring your newly found confidence into the British Open, and God willing, win the championship. Sometimes the Big Man upstairs tests us by putting something in the palm of our hands only to snatch it away at the last moment. That was your 2008 US Open Championship. So this time when you see a major championship trophy in your sites, snatch it up and become the Major Championship winner that you have always been!!!
